This last week has been a slow one for me when it comes to posting, although it seems like the week went by really fast! Spring Forward really messed up my sleep schedule on Sunday night giving me complete insomnia, so I wound up sleeping for 3 hours Monday afternoon. Then I was still catching up on sleep on Tuesday with another 3 hour nap, so finally yesterday I was all caught up. In the meantime, Jeff has been sick with a bad cold, and I have 2 new job opportunities that I’m really excited about. I have a meeting on Monday for one of them, and an interview where I’ll be giving a huge 20 minute presentation for the other one. Since both are early in the works, I won’t go into too much detail yet, but I’m excited about them both!
I am so happy that there are only 9 more days left of winter, and it’s already warming up in Kansas City. In fact, it’s been in the upper 60s this whole week, and today it’s made it to 73 degrees, sunny and not a cloud in the sky. I’m even sitting outside while I’m writing this post. I’m going to take advantage of this as long as I can, because even though it’s beautiful now, Kansas City weather is so erratic and it could still snow in the beginning of April. One thing I would not wish for for is spring 2 years ago when it snowed on May 2nd. That was a total fluke, but it can happen, so I’ll enjoy today’s 73 degree weather for as long as I can! THOUGHTS OF THE DAY
As soon as I finished the PiYo Sweat video today, and I was completely out of breath, Jeff asked me how I felt. I immediately told him, “My body hates me right now, yet it loves me too.” It’s the truth. My body hates me because I pushed it hard to it’s limits, and made it feel like jello when the video ended. Yet it loves me too, because I literally worked it to the core and it knows if I keep this up, that is what will help me strengthen and tone. It also loves me because I didn’t give up like I have before in the past… and oh how I wanted to give up after the first 10 minutes, then after the first 15 minutes, and again at the 25 minute mark! But I made it through, and I’m so happy I did! Ok, those last 2 minutes of stretches then pushups then stretches and then more pushups may have only been stretches for me, but I know I’ll get there. THOUGHTS OF THE DAY
Overall today was good. I almost talked myself out of exercising this morning, but I’m proud that I still did it. I went to bed later than usual last night because I had a creative streak and started working on a new logo for the blog. Next thing I knew it was close to midnight, and I forced myself to go to bed. But when the alarm went off at 5:30am, I turned it off and slept for another hour. I was so tempted to do my typical “oh, I’ll just exercise later today” and reminded myself that every time I say that I never actually work out. So I got out of bed, went to the bathroom, drank some water, put on a sports bra and worked out in my pajama pants. The nice thing about doing PiYo is I don’t have to leave my house or put on shoes! Chicken drumsticks are a comfort food to me. It reminds me of my childhood because I ate them all the time. My mom usually seasoned and baked a bunch for the week, and it would be warm for dinner and cold for lunch. I was probably one of the few kids that would be sent to elementary school with a big ol’ drumstick in her lunch box. But then again I always had something different to bring with me to lunch. THOUGHTS OF THE DAY
I’m amazed at how much the body can change over a month of not exercising! While doing the PiYo video this morning I realized that I’ve lost some of the flexibility that I had gained and I needed a chair again to help me with my balance. I was also totally out of breath when the video was over, whereas before when this was in my regular cycle of workouts, it was an easy day.
I need to remember this as part of my “Why” I want to be fit every time I try to talk myself out of exercising. It’s like when I took ballet classes when I was younger. I was taking 3 classes a week at one point, and if I missed even one class, not only was I behind in anything new my teacher taught, but I’d notice a difference in my performance because I lost the momentum. Now as an adult, I have to continue the mentality that practice is key, and if I want to grow my flexibility and strength then I must continue to “practice” every day.
For those food photographers out there, have you ever noticed how hard it is to photograph meatballs? Like seriously… here are these tiny little balls (that’s what she said!) and you first have to try to get them to not roll around on the plate. Then, they’re this drab brown that desperately needs color to make the food look appetizing through a picture. So, as I’m learning more and more about the art of taking photos, I’m really hoping that I was able to add enough color to the pictures to make the meatballs look tasty, because OMG these were delicious! I first tried PiYo in October, yet I have yet to do a complete program for the full 60 days. It’s not because I don’t like it. Quite the contrary! I love PiYo! It’s one of the few exercises I really enjoy doing. It’s low impact and uses moves from both Pilates and Yoga and still works up a sweat. But, I think starting a program right before going on a vacation and then trying to start it again right before the holidays, just keeps on setting me back. Basically, I kept on having excuses on why I wouldn’t work out that day. Next thing I knew, an entire week would go by. And recently an entire month went by. I don’t think I worked out a single day in February!
Well, this will happen no more! I am determined that I will finish the full PiYo program so I can say that I actually did it. Continue reading My 60 Days of PiYo: Day #1
Yesterday was the perfect day to do my weekly #FoodPrepSunday. It had snowed a lot the day before, so it was a perfect day to stay inside and heat up the kitchen with the stove and oven! Thankfully the sun did come out, which helped with shoveling, and it gave me some great natural light in the kitchen for photos. Plus, I prefer natural light so much more than using a lamp or overhead lighting because it keeps me happy and awake!

Breakfast and brunch have always been my two favorite meals of the day. I don’t know why. I’ve always been a protein for breakfast kind of person too. And a savory protein. The idea of having only something sweet for breakfast or brunch does not appeal to me one bit. Maybe it’s because my mom wouldn’t allow me to have the sugary cereals as a kid? I don’t know. Now don’t get me wrong, I love pancakes, waffles, donuts, danishes, cereal, etc. but I usually want those items in the evening for some reason. Probably because in college my friends and I would always do the late night Denny’s run after a night of partying, because pancakes drenched at 2am is soooooooooooo good 😉 Although now that I think about it, a lot of times the after party would be at my place and I’d wind up making omelettes with hash browns and bacon for everyone. Or I would wind up taking over someone else’s kitchen and cook everyone breakfast at 2am. Oh, those were the days!
